In the last 6 months, my wife and I had decided to finally make the move to Texas. I’ve always felt the urge to return; most of my family live here, and I really wanted to be closer to my Dad again. There were a few life events that occurred that really accelerated our decision, specifically our gain and loss of our son, Christian. I may go deeper into that in a future post, but the short of it is we really needed a change of scenery.
Moving back has been quite an endeavor. From closing old warehouses and a family’s worth of stuff across the country, it is quite different from when I was younger, moving myself between cities and states. So far, it has definitely been worth it, and we’re both extremely happy being here. Our dogs seem happier too and have both been out dove hunting.
Professionally, it’s likely the best thing for me as well. Austin has always been a big IT/Tech hub, but something seems different this time. There are a lot of gaming companies local here as well, and I look forward to networking with professionals in the industry. Things in Florida had become so stagnant that it was taking a noticeable effect on my happiness. I don’t regret anything we’ve done in Florida and hope to return full swing when the gaming market has stabilized.
Being able to be back developing full time, instead of getting caught in the daily operations, I can really flex my creativity and work on some really cool projects. I plan on publishing more blog posts about some insights I learn and maybe share some code to get the point across. The advent of these super powerful AI tools has really changed the landscape of software development. I thought I could program quickly to the tune of possibly 2-3 developers, but now it feels like I could on my own keep up with a small gaming studio.
G2E is in a few weeks, and I’m really looking forward to seeing what the rest of the industry is doing and catching up with some friends as well. If you’re attending and want to grab a coffee, feel free to send me an email! [email protected]
Talk to you all later!
